Description
The Avanos PMP-100-N is a specialized model within the ON-Q Pain Relief System* that features an integrated Patient-Controlled Bolus (PMP). This allows the patient to self-administer an extra "burst" of local anesthetic when they experience breakthrough pain, in addition to the continuous flow.
The "-N" suffix indicates that this model is equipped with NRFit™ connectors, which are specialized safety connectors designed to prevent misconnections between neuraxial and other medical applications.
Key Features
Patient-Controlled Bolus (PMP): Includes a handheld button that the patient can press to deliver a pre-set extra dose of medication.
Automatic Refill: Once a bolus is delivered, the small bolus chamber automatically refills from the main reservoir.
Lockout Period: The system is mechanically designed with a "lockout" time (typically 30 or 60 minutes), preventing the patient from administering a second bolus until the chamber has had time to refill.
Non-Opioid Analgesia: Specifically designed to provide targeted, localized pain relief to reduce the need for systemic narcotics like morphine or oxycodone.
NRFit™ Safety Connectors: Features specialized yellow-coded connectors that are incompatible with standard Luer-lock devices, significantly reducing the risk of accidental cross-connection with IV lines.
Mechanical & Silent: Operates purely on elastomeric pressure; it requires no batteries, electricity, or electronic programming.
Technical Specifications

Main Reservoir Volume: 100 mL.
Continuous Flow Rate: 1.0 mL per hour (Fixed).
Bolus Volume: 5.0 mL per "press."
Lockout Time: 30 minutes (Refill time for the bolus chamber).
Total Infusion Duration: Approximately 100 hours (roughly 4 days), though this decreases if the bolus is used frequently.
Sterilization: Ethylene Oxide (EtO).

Primary Uses
Breakthrough Pain Management: Ideal for surgeries where pain intensity is expected to spike during movement or physical therapy, allowing the patient to manage these "peaks" safely.
Neuraxial Applications: The NRFit™ connectors make it suitable for regional anesthesia where strict adherence to safety connection standards is required.
Enhanced Recovery (ERAS): Empowers the patient to manage their own pain levels without the side effects of narcotics, facilitating earlier mobilization.
Ambulatory Transition: Its portable design allows patients to be discharged with a system that can handle both baseline pain and sudden increases in discomfort.
