Description

The Avanos EBL22050SG is an ECHOBRIGHT Single-Shot Non-Stimulating Needle*. This needle is a specialized tool for ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, featuring a length and gauge ideal for superficial to moderate-depth nerve blocks.

The "SG" designation stands for Single-shot/Non-stimulating, meaning it is designed for clinicians who perform blocks using ultrasound visualization alone, without the need for electrical nerve stimulation.

Technical Specifications

  • Needle Gauge: 22G.

  • Needle Length: 50 mm (approximately 2 inches).

  • Needle Tip: 21° Facet Bevel (short-bevel design).

  • Echogenicity: Features the full-length 360° laser-etched EchoBright coating.

Key Features

  • Enhanced Ultrasound Visibility: The primary feature is the "EchoBright" technology—a 360-degree laser-etched pattern along the shaft. This allows the needle to be highly visible under ultrasound even when inserted at steep angles, ensuring the clinician can see the tip's exact location at all times.

  • Non-Stimulating Design: This version does not include an electrical cable. It is a more streamlined and cost-effective option for practitioners who do not use "dual guidance" (stimulation + ultrasound).

  • Integrated Infusion Set: It typically comes with a pre-attached clear tubing set (injection set), allowing an assistant to inject the local anesthetic while the physician focuses on maintaining the ultrasound image.

  • Short-Bevel Safety: The 21° facet bevel is designed to provide tactile feedback as it passes through different tissue layers (fascia), helping to prevent accidental nerve penetration compared to longer, sharper "cutting" needles.

  • Depth Control: The needle shaft includes numerical graduated markings to provide an immediate visual check of how deep the needle has been inserted.

Primary Uses

The 50 mm length makes this needle particularly well-suited for peripheral nerve blocks that are relatively close to the skin surface, such as:

  • Interscalene / Supraclavicular Blocks: For surgery on the shoulder, clavicle, or upper arm.

  • Femoral Nerve Blocks: Used for pain management in knee procedures or hip fractures.

  • Axillary Nerve Blocks: For procedures involving the forearm, wrist, or hand.

  • TAP (Transversus Abdominis Plane) Blocks: Used for abdominal wall anesthesia and post-operative pain relief.
