Description
the Avanos EBL20150SG is an ECHOBRIGHT Single-Shot Non-Stimulating Needle*. This is the longest standard version in the EchoBright line, specifically engineered for reaching very deep nerve structures under ultrasound guidance.
The "SG" designation stands for Single-shot/Non-stimulating, meaning it is designed for clinicians who rely on ultrasound visualization alone and do not require electrical nerve stimulation.
Technical Specifications
Needle Gauge: 20G (the slightly larger diameter provides the necessary stability to prevent the needle from bending at this length).
Needle Length: 150 mm (approximately 6 inches).
Needle Tip: 21° Facet Bevel (a short-bevel safety tip).
Echogenicity: Full-length 360° laser-etched EchoBright coating for maximum visibility.
Configuration: Non-stimulating (does not include an electrical cable).
Key Features
Maximum Ultrasound Visibility: For a 150 mm needle, maintaining visibility is a major challenge. The EchoBright laser-etching reflects ultrasound waves back to the probe across the entire shaft, ensuring the clinician can see the tip even at the very steep angles required for deep blocks.
Short-Bevel Safety: The 21° facet bevel provides superior tactile feedback compared to long-bevel needles. This allows the physician to "feel" the needle passing through different tissue planes (fascia), which is a critical safety feature when working at depth.
Enhanced Column Strength: The 20-gauge thickness is purposefully chosen for this length to prevent the needle from "bowing" or wandering as it passes through thick layers of muscle and tissue.
Integrated Infusion Set: Includes a pre-attached clear tubing set, allowing an assistant to inject the local anesthetic while the physician maintains the ultrasound image.
Graduated Depth Markings: Numerical markings on the shaft allow the clinician to monitor the insertion depth in real-time, which is essential for safety during deep procedures.
Primary Uses
The 150 mm length is reserved for extra-deep peripheral nerve blocks and specialized pain procedures, such as:
Deep Sciatic Nerve Blocks: Particularly in patients with a larger body habitus using the gluteal approach.
Psoas Compartment Blocks: To reach the lumbar plexus deep within the posterior abdominal wall.
Lumbar Sympathetic Blocks: Frequently used in chronic pain management.
Deep Fascial Plane Blocks: For cases where the target area is located deep beneath multiple layers of muscle.
