Description

The Avanos ELL18050TG is an ECHOLONG Continuous Nerve Block Set*. This kit is used to place a catheter for the ongoing delivery of local anesthetic, providing extended pain management for several days following a surgical procedure.

The "TG" designation indicates that this set features a Tuohy-tip needle and is non-stimulating, designed specifically for clinicians who rely on ultrasound guidance for catheter placement.

Technical Specifications

  • Needle Gauge: 18G (allows for a 21G catheter to be threaded through the center).

  • Needle Length: 50 mm (approximately 2 inches).

  • Needle Tip: Tuohy Bevel (a curved, "scooped" tip).

  • Configuration: Non-stimulating (does not include an electrical cable).

  • Catheter Type: 21G Soft-Tip Catheter.

Key Features

  • Tuohy Needle Tip: The curved tip is specifically designed to help "steer" the catheter as it exits the needle. This allows the catheter to be directed at a more parallel angle to the nerve, which helps prevent kinking and reduces the risk of the catheter migrating away from the target area.

  • 360° Echogenicity: The needle shaft features a specialized laser-etched pattern that reflects ultrasound waves back to the probe. This ensures the needle remains highly visible on the monitor even when inserted at steep angles.

  • Streamlined Design: This set is intended for ultrasound-only procedures. Because it lacks an electrical cable, it offers a simplified setup for practitioners who do not use "dual guidance" (stimulation + ultrasound).

  • Soft-Tip Catheter: The included catheter has a flexible, atraumatic tip. This design minimizes the risk of nerve or blood vessel injury while the catheter is being advanced through the needle and into the tissue space.

  • Numerical Depth Markings: Both the needle and the catheter feature graduated markings, allowing the physician to precisely control the depth of insertion and monitor the length of catheter advanced into the patient.

Primary Uses

The 50 mm length is ideal for Continuous Peripheral Nerve Blocks (CPNB) where the target nerve is at a superficial or moderate depth, such as:

  • Interscalene Blocks: For continuous pain relief after major shoulder surgery.

  • Adductor Canal Blocks: Frequently used for post-operative recovery after total knee replacements.

  • Femoral Nerve Blocks: For prolonged pain management following knee or hip procedures.

  • Supraclavicular Blocks: For extended anesthesia of the arm and hand.
