Medical Description
The 0250-16 is used for airway management in adult patients requiring mechanical ventilation or anesthesia. The 6.0 mm size is typically used for smaller adults or patients with narrower tracheal anatomy.
Because the cuff is made of polyurethane rather than PVC, it remains flexible and maintains a seal even when the patient's head is moved or during long-term intubation in the ICU. The "oral" designation indicates it is designed for insertion through the mouth into the trachea.
Key Features
Ultra-Thin Polyurethane Cuff: Unlike standard PVC cuffs that are approximately 50–80 microns thick, the Micro-Cuff material is only 10 microns thick. This allows the cuff to mold to the irregular contours of the tracheal wall, effectively sealing "micro-channels" that can lead to fluid leakage.
Reduced Risk of VAP: By preventing the micro-aspiration of subglottic secretions into the lungs, the Micro-Cuff design is clinically proven to reduce the risk of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP).
Lower Seal Pressures: The advanced material provides an effective seal at pressures below 20 cm , which helps maintain capillary blood flow to the tracheal mucosa and reduces the risk of post-intubation tracheal trauma or sore throat.
High-Volume, Low-Pressure (HVLP) Performance: Even though it is ultra-thin, it functions as an HVLP cuff, spreading the pressure over a larger surface area than "high-pressure" cuffs.
Depth Markings: Includes clear, easy-to-read markings on the tube to ensure accurate placement and monitoring of the tube position relative to the vocal cords.
