Description

The Avanos ELL18050SGC is an ECHOLONG Continuous Nerve Block Set*. This kit is used to place a catheter for the ongoing delivery of local anesthetic, providing extended pain relief for several days following a surgical procedure.

This specific "SGC" model is a premium configuration that combines ultrasound-enhancing technology with electrical stimulation for highly accurate catheter placement.

Technical Specifications

  • Needle Gauge: 18G (standard size for allowing a 21G catheter to pass through).

  • Needle Length: 50 mm (approximately 2 inches).

  • Needle Tip: 21° Facet Bevel (short-bevel design).

  • Needle Type: Insulated and Echogenic.

  • Configuration: Stimulating (includes a pre-attached electrical cable).

Key Features

  • Dual Guidance Technology: The needle is both echogenic (visible under ultrasound) and stimulating (delivers electrical pulses). This allows the physician to "dual-verify" the needle tip location: visually on the ultrasound monitor and physically via a muscle twitch response.

  • 360° Echogenicity: The needle shaft features a specialized laser-etched pattern that reflects ultrasound waves back to the probe. This prevents the needle from "disappearing" on the screen, even when inserted at steep angles.

  • Integrated Stimulating Cable: The needle comes with a pre-attached electrical lead, making it ready to connect directly to a nerve stimulator without additional adapters.

  • Soft-Tip Catheter: The set includes a 21-gauge flexible catheter with a rounded "soft-tip" designed to be threaded through the needle. This reduces the risk of nerve or vessel injury during the threading process.

  • Numerical Depth Markings: Both the needle and the catheter have graduated markings, ensuring the clinician can precisely monitor the depth of insertion and the length of the catheter advanced into the tissue.

Primary Uses

The 50 mm length is intended for Continuous Peripheral Nerve Blocks (CPNB) where the target nerve is relatively close to the skin surface, such as:

  • Interscalene Blocks: For continuous pain relief after major shoulder surgery.

  • Femoral Nerve Blocks: Used for post-operative recovery after knee replacements or hip fractures.

  • Supraclavicular Blocks: For prolonged anesthesia of the upper arm and elbow.

  • Adductor Canal Blocks: A common choice for continuous pain management that preserves muscle strength in the leg.
