Description

The T11X8 is a sterile, single-use surgical instrument consisting of a rigid stainless steel rod and a T-Peel sheath. It is designed to facilitate "tunneling"—the process of threading a catheter under the skin so that its exit point is 3–5 cm away from the surgical incision. This clinical technique is used to improve catheter stability and reduce the risk of surgical site infections.

Key Features

  • 11-Gauge Rigidity: The thicker 11 G diameter prevents the tunneler from bending when being pushed through tougher subcutaneous layers or fascia, providing the surgeon with more precise control.

  • 8-Inch Reach: A mid-to-long length that is ideal for abdominal and thoracic procedures where a standard 5-inch tunneler is too short to reach the desired exit site.

  • T-Peel Technology: The sheath allows the catheter to be protected while being threaded through the tunnel. Once the catheter is in position, the plastic sheath is peeled apart and removed, leaving the catheter undisturbed.

  • Enhanced Handle: The handle is designed to provide high torque and a secure grip, which is necessary when navigating the increased resistance associated with an 11-gauge instrument.

Clinical Application

The T11X8 is typically used in surgeries where tissue density or incision size requires a sturdier tool than a standard 17 G tunneler, such as:

  • Abdominal Wall Blocks (TAP Blocks): Creating a path for continuous infusion in the transversus abdominis plane.

  • Thoracic/Rib Surgeries: Where the instrument must pass over or around bony structures.

  • Reconstructive Surgery: Providing a secure exit for catheters near muscle or skin flaps.
