Description
The Avanos SAF01 is a specialized elastomeric infusion pump within the ON-Q Pain Relief System*. It is a "Select-A-Flow" model, which distinguishes it from the fixed-rate pumps by providing a variable rate controller that allows clinicians to adjust the medication flow based on a patient's specific pain levels.
Key Features
SELECT-A-FLOW Variable Controller:* Features a physical dial that allows the flow rate to be titrated (adjusted) within a set range, providing customizable pain management.
Titratable Control: Clinicians can increase the flow during periods of high activity or physical therapy and decrease it during rest, or even turn the flow off entirely if needed.
Non-Opioid Pain Relief: Delivers local anesthetic directly to the surgical site or nerve, significantly reducing the patient's reliance on systemic narcotics and minimizing opioid-related side effects.
Maintenance-Free: Despite having a variable controller, the system remains completely mechanical and non-electronic, requiring no batteries or power cords.
Ambulatory Portability: Like other ON-Q* models, it is lightweight and designed to be carried in a small pouch, supporting early patient mobilization and home-based recovery.
Integrated Safety: Features a built-in filter to remove air and particulates, ensuring the anesthetic remains pure as it enters the body.
Technical Specifications
Model Number: SAF01 (ON-Q* with SELECT-A-FLOW*).
Fill Volume: 270 mL.
Flow Rate Range: 1.0 to 7.0 mL per hour (Adjustable).
Nominal Infusion Duration: Approximately 38 to 270 hours (roughly 1.5 to 11 days), depending on the selected flow rate.
Sterilization: Ethylene Oxide (EtO).
Material: Manufactured without natural rubber latex; contains DEHP.
Packaging: Standard unit of sale is a case of 5 units.
Primary Uses
Customized Post-Operative Recovery: Ideal for surgeries where pain levels are expected to fluctuate significantly, allowing the dosage to be adjusted without changing the pump.
Physical Therapy Support: Allows for an increase in local anesthetic flow prior to rehabilitation exercises to manage movement-related pain.
Complex Surgical Sites: Used in procedures where the optimal flow rate may be difficult to predict pre-operatively, giving the care team flexibility during the recovery phase.
Opioid-Sparing Protocols: Acts as a centerpiece for multimodal analgesia, helping patients transition from hospital to home while maintaining professional-grade, titratable pain control.
