Description
Key Features
DEHP-Free and Latex-Free: The tubing is constructed without Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), making it safer for administering lipid-based medications (like TPN) and suitable for long-term care. It is also completely latex-free to reduce the risk of allergic reactions.
15-Micron Filter: A standard 15-micron (15 $\mu$m) particulate filter is integrated within the drip chamber. This filter removes larger particles and contaminants from the fluid before it enters the patient’s bloodstream.
Universal Spike: The set includes a universal spike that is vented/non-vented. This allows it to be used flexibly with both rigid glass or semi-rigid plastic solution containers (requires venting) and collapsible plastic IV bags (does not require venting).
Swivel Luer Lock: Features a male swivel Luer Lock connector at the patient end, which provides a secure, rotational, and leak-proof connection to an IV catheter or access device.
Flow Control: Utilizes a standard roller clamp for easy and precise manual adjustment of the fluid flow rate.
Y-Injection Site: Includes one Y-injection site (or Y-Port), typically located 6 inches from the distal end. This enables clinicians to administer a secondary IV fluid or medication (like a bolus dose) without disrupting the primary infusion.
Drip Rate and Length:
Drip Rate: 20 drops per milliliter (20 drops/mL), which is the standard macro-drip rate for adult primary IV sets.
Length: Approximately 92 inches (234 cm) of tubing, providing ample length for patient comfort and mobility near the IV pole.
Priming Volume: Has a priming volume of approximately 20.5 mL.
Primary Uses
General Gravity Infusion: Used to connect a primary IV solution container (bag or bottle) to a patient’s vascular access device for continuous, gravity-fed infusion.
Medication Administration: The single Y-site facilitates the piggybacking of intermittent medications or the administration of concentrated drug boluses.
Filtered Therapy: The 15-micron filter ensures that standard IV solutions are delivered free of particulate matter.
Safe Lipid Delivery: The DEHP-free construction makes it the preferred choice for administering lipid emulsions, such as those found in Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN).
