Description
The Avanos HN3S-150 is the longest standard PROBLOC II Insulated Regional Block Needle*. It is specifically designed for very deep single-shot nerve blocks where electrical stimulation is required for precise localization in complex or deep anatomy.
The "HN3S" designation identifies it as a stimulating needle equipped with an integrated cable and a 30° block bevel.
Technical Specifications
Needle Gauge: 20G (the thickness provides the necessary "column strength" to prevent the needle from bending at this extreme length).
Needle Length: 150 mm (approximately 6 inches).
Needle Tip: 30° Block Bevel (short-bevel safety design).
Insulation: Fully insulated shaft with a precision-exposed stimulating tip.
Configuration: Stimulating (includes a pre-attached electrical cable and a clear injection set).
Key Features
Maximum Reach: At 150 mm, this is the deepest needle in the PROBLOC II line. It is engineered for targets that are unreachable with standard 80 mm or 100 mm needles.
Focused Tip Stimulation: The insulation concentrates the electrical current at the needle's tip, allowing the clinician to identify the target nerve by triggering a muscle twitch at very low currents.
Short-Bevel Safety: The 30° block bevel provides enhanced tactile feedback. This allows the practitioner to "feel" the needle passing through various layers of muscle and fascia, which is a critical safety check when performing blocks at a 6-inch depth.
Integrated Injection Tubing: The needle comes with a pre-attached clear extension set. This enables an assistant to aspirate and inject medication while the physician maintains the exact position of the needle tip.
Numerical Depth Markings: Graduated markings on the shaft allow for real-time monitoring of insertion depth.
Primary Uses
The 150 mm length is typically reserved for deep-access peripheral nerve blocks, especially in patients with a high body mass index (BMI), for procedures such as:
Deep Sciatic Nerve Blocks: (Trans-gluteal approach) for anesthesia of the lower leg and foot.
Psoas Compartment Blocks: To reach the lumbar plexus located deep within the posterior abdominal wall.
Lumbar Plexus Blocks: For pain relief during or after complex hip surgery.
Anterior Sciatic Blocks: Where the needle must pass through several layers of the thigh.
