Description
The Avanos HN2-80 is a PROBLOC II Insulated Regional Block Needle*. It is designed for single-shot peripheral nerve blocks, allowing clinicians to deliver local anesthetic precisely to a target nerve to manage surgical or post-operative pain.
This specific model is a longer version of the HN2-40, making it suitable for deeper anatomical targets.
Technical Specifications
The part number HN2-80 designates these specific measurements:
Needle Gauge: 22G.
Needle Length: 80 mm (approximately 3.15 inches).
Needle Tip: 30° Block Bevel (a short-bevel design that offers tactile feedback as the needle passes through different tissue layers).
Insulation: Sleeve-coated insulation that ensures electrical stimulation is focused exclusively at the needle tip.
Key Features
Nerve Stimulation Ready: The insulated shaft allows for precise nerve localization when connected to a nerve stimulator (like the EZSTIM*). As the needle tip nears the nerve, the electrical current triggers a muscle response, confirming the needle's position.
Integrated Injection Set: Includes a pre-attached clear tubing set. This allows an assistant to perform the "aspiration and injection" process while the physician maintains steady control of the needle.
Tactile Feedback: The 30° block bevel is designed to provide "pops" or resistance changes as it moves through fascia, helping the clinician distinguish between different tissue types.
Graduated Markings: The shaft is marked with depth indicators so the physician can monitor exactly how deep the needle has been inserted.
Non-Cable Configuration: The HN2 series typically does not have a pre-attached stimulating cable (unlike the HN3S series). It is designed to be connected to a stimulator via a separate lead set, such as the NSL-5.
Primary Uses
With its 80 mm length, this needle is used for deeper peripheral nerve blocks, including:
Sciatic Nerve Blocks: For procedures involving the lower leg, ankle, or foot.
Lumbar Plexus Blocks: Used for major hip or thigh surgeries.
Popliteal Blocks: For surgeries on the lower leg and foot.
Infraclavicular Blocks: For upper extremity surgeries where a deeper approach is required.
