Description
The Avanos HN3S-40 is a PROBLOC II Insulated Regional Block Needle*. This needle is specifically designed for single-shot peripheral nerve blocks. It utilizes electrical stimulation to precisely locate nerves before injecting local anesthetic, ensuring the medication is delivered in the optimal location.
The "HN3S" designation identifies it as part of the PROBLOC II line, featuring an integrated stimulating cable and a 30° bevel.
Technical Specifications
Needle Gauge: 22G.
Needle Length: 40 mm (approximately 1.6 inches).
Needle Tip: 30° Block Bevel (a short-bevel design).
Insulation: Fully insulated shaft with only the active tip exposed.
Configuration: Stimulating (includes a pre-attached electrical cable and a clear injection set).
Key Features
Pinpoint Nerve Localization: The high-quality insulation ensures that the electrical current is concentrated at the very tip of the needle. This allows the clinician to locate the nerve precisely by observing a muscle twitch response at low electrical currents.
30° Block Bevel: The short, 30° bevel is designed to provide enhanced tactile feedback. This allows the physician to "feel" the needle passing through different tissue layers (fascia), which helps prevent accidental nerve or vessel penetration compared to standard long-bevel needles.
Integrated Injection Tubing: The needle comes with a pre-attached clear extension set. This enables an assistant to perform aspiration and injection while the clinician maintains the exact position of the needle tip near the nerve.
Ergonomic Hub: The hub is designed for a secure grip and easy manipulation, providing the clinician with maximum control during delicate needle advancements.
Depth Markings: Numerical markings on the needle shaft allow the practitioner to monitor the insertion depth in real-time, enhancing procedural safety.
Primary Uses
The 40 mm length and 22G diameter are ideal for superficial to moderate-depth nerve blocks, such as:
Interscalene Blocks: For post-operative pain relief following shoulder surgery.
Axillary Blocks: For anesthesia of the forearm and hand.
Femoral Nerve Blocks: In patients with a smaller body habitus or where the nerve is superficial.
Pediatric Blocks: Often used in pediatric regional anesthesia due to the shorter length and finer gauge.
