Description

The Avanos PL18150TGC is the longest standard ProLong Continuous Nerve Block Set*. This set is specifically engineered for the deepest continuous nerve block procedures, combining high-visibility ultrasound technology and electrical stimulation to ensure precise catheter placement in complex or deep anatomy.

The "TGC" designation indicates that the needle features a Tuohy Bevel, is Insulated (Stimulating), and is Echogenic.

Technical Specifications

  • Needle Gauge: 18G.

  • Needle Length: 150 mm (approximately 6 inches).

  • Needle Tip: Tuohy Bevel (curved tip designed for catheter steering).

  • Catheter Size: 21G (designed to pass through the 18G needle).

  • Catheter Length: 36 inches (approximately 91 cm).

  • Guidance Type: Dual Guidance (Stimulating + Echogenic/Ultrasound).

Key Features

  • Maximum Depth Reach: At 150 mm, this set is designed for targets unreachable with standard needles. The 18-gauge diameter provides the critical column strength required to prevent the needle from bowing or wandering while traversing 6 inches of tissue.

  • Tuohy Bevel Steering: The curved Tuohy tip allows the clinician to direct the catheter at an angle parallel to the nerve. This is vital for deep blocks to ensure the catheter stays in the perineural space and does not kink.

  • Integrated Dual Guidance: * Echogenic: The shaft is etched for 360° ultrasound visibility, which is essential at the steep angles often used for deep posterior blocks.

    • Stimulating: An integrated cable allows for electrical nerve stimulation to confirm the needle tip's proximity to the nerve via muscle twitch response.

  • ProLong Catheter System:* The 21G catheter is highly flexible and kink-resistant, designed to provide a reliable medication pathway for multi-day infusions.

  • Standard Interface: Compatible with standard Luer-lock systems, including the ON-Q Pain Relief System*.

Primary Uses

The 150 mm length is typically reserved for extra-deep Continuous Peripheral Nerve Blocks (CPNB), especially in patients with a high body mass index (BMI), for procedures such as:

  • Deep Sciatic Nerve Blocks: (Trans-gluteal approach) for continuous analgesia after major lower-limb surgery.

  • Psoas Compartment Blocks: To reach the lumbar plexus deep within the posterior abdominal wall.

  • Lumbar Plexus Blocks: For extended pain relief following complex hip or femur procedures.

  • Anterior Sciatic Blocks: Where the needle must pass through several thick muscle layers of the thigh.
