Prism Bar, Vertical, Short

Short Vertical Prism Bar provides 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 diopters. Values are marked on the bar. This shorter bar provides a pocket size version for portability but includes the most often required values.

Prism Bars provide an efficient means for treating cases of diplopia, symptomatic heterophorias and abnormal head postures.

FAA Regulations read: "If an applicant exceeds the heterophoria standards (1 prism diopter of hyperphoria, 6 prism diopters of esophoria, or 6 prism diopters of exophoria), but shows no evidence of diplopia or serious eye pathology and all other aspects of the examination are favorable, the AME should not withhold or deny the medical certificate. The applicant should be advised that the FAA may require further examination by a qualified eye specialist."

Prisms tend to be more effective for patients with divergence insufficiency, basic esophoria, and vertical heterophoria than for convergence insufficiency, basic exophoria, divergence excess and convergence excess.
