Description

Key Features

  • Mimics Natural Clotting: TISSEEL is made of a sealer protein solution (fibrinogen) and a thrombin solution. When they mix, they replicate the final stage of the body's natural blood clotting process, forming a stable fibrin clot.

  • Clot Stability: The sealant contains aprotinin, a synthetic protein that prevents the premature breakdown of the fibrin clot. This ensures the clot remains in place long enough to be effective.

  • DUPLOJECT Application System: The product comes in a pre-filled, dual-chamber syringe called the DUPLOJECT system. This keeps the two components separate until application, ensuring proper mixing and activation. It includes various applicator tips for precise delivery as a drip or a spray.

  • Proven Efficacy: It is effective in patients on blood thinners (heparinized) or antiplatelet medications, as well as on delicate (friable) tissues.

  • Biocompatible and Biodegradable: TISSEEL is derived from human plasma, making it biocompatible. The body naturally absorbs it as the surgical site heals.

Uses

TISSEEL is used as an adjunct to standard surgical techniques like sutures, ligatures, and cautery.

  • Hemostasis (Bleeding Control): It's used to stop bleeding in adults and children (over one month old) when conventional methods are impractical or ineffective. It is especially useful for controlling widespread, slow oozing from surfaces that are difficult to suture.

  • Sealing: TISSEEL acts as a tissue glue to prevent leaks from surgical sites and improve wound healing. A key use is to help seal colonic anastomoses (connections in the colon) after a colostomy reversal. It is widely used across many surgical fields, including:

    • Vascular surgery

    • Gastrointestinal surgery

    • Neurosurgery

    • Spinal surgery

    • ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) surgery

  • Tissue Adhesion: It helps adhere separated tissues, such as skin grafts and tissue flaps, to the wound bed.
