Description
The Avanos 183107 is a Tuohy Epidural Needle. While it shares the 22-gauge size with the 183106 spinal needle, its "Tuohy" tip design is specifically engineered for epidural space access and the subsequent threading of a catheter.
Key Features
Tuohy Bevel Design: The needle features a curved, directional tip. This curve is designed to push away the dura mater (the outer layer of the spinal cord) rather than puncturing it, and it helps direct an epidural catheter into the proper position within the epidural space.
1 cm Graduations: The shaft is marked with clear, 1-centimeter calibrations. These allow the clinician to monitor the exact depth of the needle as it progresses through the tissue layers.
Removable Wings: Equipped with a "winged" hub that provides a more stable grip and better control for the clinician during the delicate insertion process. These wings can be removed if the clinician prefers a standard hub grip.
Metal Stylet: Includes a precision-fitted metal stylet that prevents tissue from entering the needle lumen (coring) during insertion and provides added rigidity.
Color-Coded Hub: The plastic hub is Black, following the international standard for 22-gauge needles, allowing for quick identification in a busy clinical environment.
